5.5 Weeks Post Relaxer: Pre-pooing With A Deep Conditioner

For my wash day this week, I decided to continue focusing on moisture. Since my last wash day, my relaxed hair started drying out sooner than normal. Typically my hair starts to feel dry about six or so days after I wash it which is one of the reasons I do my regular wash day about every seven days.

To try and help remedy my dry hair situation I decided to change up my wash day routine. Keep reading to see what that change was.

To start off my wash day I had to detangle and I don't detangle on dry hair. Doing that would just cause damage such as hair breakage and even make some tangles worse. So to detangle I applied an organic virgin coconut oil and water mix to my relaxed hair and then used my fingers to work out tangles. I followed with a seamless comb to make sure all of the tangles were out.

Next, it was time for the pre-poo. So far for my pre-poo, I've been using a rinse-out conditioner and a cleansing conditioner. I've had mixed results so far and lately, I've noticed that my hair isn't as moisturized as I'd like it to be. So I decided to try something new. Pre-poo with a deep conditioner.

I've seen some other relaxed hair bloggers do this and they've had great results and are now exclusively using deep conditioners for their pro-poo.

For my pre-poo, I decided to use the Eden BodyWorks Jojoba Monoi Deep Conditioner. I applied it all over my hair covered my hair with a shower cap and went about my business for about 90 minutes. with a shower cap and no heat for about 90 minutes.

Before rinsing the pre-poo out of my hair I braided my hair into four braids, not sure why I didn't do this earlier. I used warm water to rinse out the Eden BodyWorks Jojoba Monoi Deep Conditioner.

To wash my hair and scalp I used a mixture of the Eden BodyWorks Jojoba Monoi Moisture Shampoo and the rest of the awapuhi ginger shampoo I'd been using and applied the mix with an applicator bottle.

I did an express condition with the Design Essential Stimulations Super Moisturizing Conditioner.

After rinsing the Design Essentials conditioner out dried my hair with a t-shirt and then detangled my hair with the Pantene Pro-V Moisture Mist Detangler and my fingers.

Applied my leave-in of Eden BodyWorks Coconut Shea Leave In Conditioner and sealed with the ThermaFuse HeatSmart Serum Dry Oil Treatment.

Air-dried for a couple of hours and finished drying under my hooded dryer on low heat for an hour.

Unfortunately, the result was nothing spectacular. I didn't notice much of an immediate difference. But on the plus side, there weren't any mishaps to report and my hair doesn't feel any worse than it did before. I'm curious to see if using a deep conditioner as my pre-poo makes any difference to my moisture levels throughout the week.

How did your wash day go? What products did you use?

  1. Hey Leah! I'm wondering how you feel about the Eden products? I haven't seen many reviews on them...then again...I haven't looked very hard either!

Thanks for joining the #washdayexperience chica!

    1. Thanks KLP. I've been using the Eden BodyWorks Coconut Shea leave in for a while and love it. It really moisturizes my hair, particularly my ends. I've just started using the Jojoba deep conditioner and shampoo. I'm on the fence about the deep conditioner. There really isn't any slip and I haven't noticed it conditioning my hair anymore than other ones I've used. In fact, I feel like I got better results from the OGX Macadamia Oil deep conditioner. The shampoo is good and doesn't strip my hair so it may be a keeper. I really want to try the Coconut Shea cowash. That will be my next Eden BodyWorks purchase

    1. Thanks for visiting Yalanda. The shampoo is ok. It cleansed my scalp and didn't dry out my hair even when used twice. Outside of that I didn't noticed any other benefits. I really like the Macadamia Oil deep conditioner as it really moisturized and softened my hair. I want to try the Macadamia shampoo and oil. The Moroccan Oil makes a good sealer
