What Happened When I Deep Conditioned My Hair Overnight | 10 Weeks Post Relaxer

During my wash day at 10 weeks post, I discovered something that several other relaxed and natural ladies already know. Overnight deep conditioning is awesome!!! Yep, this wash day at 10 weeks post I did an overnight deep condition on my relaxed hair.

I had tried deep conditioning overnight once in the past and it didn't go well. I think that was because I wore a plastic cap which caused my scalp to tingle so badly that I ended up washing my hair in the middle of the night. After that, I vowed I wouldn't do an overnight deep condition ever again.

Well, that vow didn't last, because I did try it again.

For this overnight deep conditioning I used Eden BodyWorks Jojoba Monoi Deep Conditioner. I applied it to my relaxed hair about an hour before I went to bed and like the week prior it sunk into my hair so there was no need to use a plastic cap. I just put on my sleeping cap and went to bed.

I didn't rinse the deep conditioner out until about 24 hours later and I didn't have any scalp tingling. I think was due to not wearing the plastic cap. By not wearing the plastic cap, my scalp could breathe overnight.

Since I used shampoo during my last wash day I co-washed this week. The co-wash I used was Eden BodyWorks Coconut Shea CoWash. Afterward, I did a green tea/apple cider vinegar rinse.

To finish off I wrapped my hair in a t-shirt for about an hour to get out the excise water. Then I applied Nothing But Melted Shea Butter for my leave-in. Next, I tension dried with my blow dryer on cool and sealed with coconut oil.

The result was smooth, moisturized hair. I plan to do some overnight deep conditioning again. Not sure if it will be every wash day though. I'll most likely do it when I feel the extra moisture is needed.

What's the longest you've deep conditioned?

  1. Yay! I'm so glad that you gave overnight deep conditioning another try. I agree that it's easier to do on dry hair than wet. How do you usually style your hair during the week?

Thanks for sharing your #washdayexperience chica!

    1. Thanks for visiting KLP. This week I was sporting updos - buns and tucked under ponytails.

  2. I definitely have to give overnight deep conditioning a try. I did it years ago on wet hair and it was a disaster. I also wanted to tell you that I used your method of ACV/green tea rinsing and my hair has never felt better. Glad your wash day was a good one.

    1. I personally think that overnight deep conditioning on dry hair is the way to go. I can't imagine doing it on wet hair. I'm so glad the acv and green tea rinse worked for you! Thanks for visiting.
