Washing 9 Weeks Worth Of Tangled, Dry, Dirty New Growth

I could not wait for this wash day to come.

The couple of days leading up to it were not fun. I hadn't done a good job stretching my new growth the previous week, I hadn't been good at moisturizing throughout the week and I hadn't done a mid-week co-wash. So by the end of the week, my hair was tangled, dry and felt dirty. Not all was lost though. I pulled out my go-to products and got to work.

I started with a deep conditioning pre-poo using Eden BodyWorks Jojoba Monoi Deep Conditioner, a protein conditioner on my ends and line of demarcation. I pre-pooed for 30 minutes without heat and tangled my hair. I wanted to make sure I was able to fully detangle without causing breakage so I opted to do it with conditioner on my hair.

After I had fully detangled, I continued to pre-poo for another hour. This time I put on my deep conditioning cap.

Next, it was time to cleanse with a moisturizing shampoo followed by a green tea and apple cider vinegar rinse. I massaged the rinse in for a few minutes and let it sit.

While rinse sat for a while I applied a Suave Natural Infusions Moisturizing Conditioner from the line of demarcation and ends.

After rinsing and t-shirt drying for an hour I used my blow dryer and the tension method to finish drying my hair. My leave-ins this week were Nothing But Melted Shea Butter and coconut oil.

The next day I styled my hair in a half bun (half ponytail?) which will be my style for most of the week.

  1. Don't you LOVE the hot head cap? It's a great way to condition with heat without sitting under a dryer.

    1. I really do! It was one of my best purchases. I already have another one waiting in the wings for when the one I'm using wears out.

  3. What is a hot head cap? Is it one of those with the gel packs that you heat up in the microwave?

My hooded dryer just died so I am looking 4 alternative solutions.

    1. A hot head cap is a microwavable deep conditioning cap. It has flax seed instead of gel packs. Here's the etsy store https://www.etsy.com/shop/ThermalHairCare/. You can also read my product review here http://growingrelaxedhair.blogspot.com/2014/12/product-review-hot-head-deep.html.
