It's time for another hair series! This one is about natural oils for chemically-treated hair. Natural oils can be a very important part of a healthy relaxed hair regimen. Extracted directly from plants, they provide slip, help seal in moisture, soothe a dry scalp, add shine and can help prevent breakage. One important thing to note is most oils don't moisturize.
When it comes to adding natural oils to your relaxed hair regimen there are so many choices. As a way to help me select the oils I'd like to include in my regimen I think of them in three groups:
- Penetrating Oils
- Non-penetrating Oils
- Essential Oils
I am now 11 weeks post and I've got a good amount of new growth. So to properly detangle, cleanse and condition I need to put my hair in sections. This wash day I put my hair into four two-strand twists and that made everything so much easier.
You may have seen posts from other hair bloggers saying they've joined the Castor Oil Challenge on Hairlista. I was a bit hesitant at first and just ignored all of the posts and images on Instagram until my curiosity got the better of me. I checked it out and saw that the challenge has four levels.
(I received this product free from Influenster for testing purposes, but all opinions are my own.)
Not only do I like to use tea on my hair as a way to combat shedding, but I also like to drink it. So when I saw that the Influenster
Frosty VoxBox included Celestial Seasonings Candy Cane Lane Green Tea I was more than happy to give it a taste.
I received two Rimmel London eye products free from Influenster
in the Frosty VoxBox for testing and wanted to give my own thoughts after using them for a few weeks.
I am now 10 weeks post and the new growth is really starting to make its presence known. The good thing is it's staying stretched throughout the week and not tangling. This means I'm seeing little to none when it comes to breakage. I'm thinking of putting a hard protein treatment in the mix within the next couple of weeks.
On to the wash day which was an exciting one for me for two reasons.
First, my tea rinses were back (yea!). Second, my hooded dryer was also back in the mix so no more tired arms!
When you saw this post you may have thought "Wait. Did I miss the eight
weeks post wash day?" No, you didn't. I didn't write one. I did co-wash that was successful but uneventful. Also, I didn't have a lot of time due to just getting back into town from my Christmas vacation and getting ready to get back to work.
This wash day is a special one. It's the first one in my new place! Plus I used a different, newish shampoo. Here's how my wash day went.
I'm back. I've been MIA for a couple of weeks due to moving into my new apartment! The move went well and now I'm just unpacking and settling in. This time away from the blog has also allowed me to get focused on 2015 and determine what my hair goals for this year are.
Whoo Hoo! I received another VoxBox from Influenster the week before Christmas. This is my third VoxBox. This one came in a pretty red box and is called the Frosty VoxBox as the products it contains are perfect for the winter and Christmas season.
Dry scalp. Flaky scalp. Those are both issues I've battled with off and on over the years.
Now that I've been on my hair journey, I've noticed that it tends to pop up when the seasons change or I don't drink a good amount of water each day. I've also noticed that I tend to have flakes around my front hairline more which I think could be resulting from the products I wash and moisturize my face each day.
With these possible causes for my dry flaky scalp in mind, I decided to do some digging online to find the
causes and treatments for a dry flaky scalp. Armed with this information I want to share my findings. Here we go.
