Wash Day: Rescuing Dry Ends 10 Weeks Post Relaxer

As you may have seen in my post that I've joined a 30-day hot oil treatment challenge. To participate in the challenge I'm doing a hot oil treatment on my relaxed hair each wash day during the month of September using the natural oils of my choice. So far my choice of oils has been grapeseed oil, almond oil, tea tree oil, and Jamaican Black Castor Oil.

For my hot oil treatment mixture for this wash day, I decided to use almond oil, tea tree oil, and some of the Eden BodyWorks Jojoba Monoi Hair Oil I had on hand which has sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, and coconut oil. Being 10 weeks post my last relaxer touch up my new growth is loving the hot oil treatment.

Here's what I did this wash day:
  • Pre-pooed with the SheaMoisture Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Hair Mask and followed that up the next day with almond oil, tea tree oil, Eden BodyWorks Jojoba Monoi Hair Oil for my hot oil treatment.
  • Cleansed using the Eden BodyWorks Coconut Shea CoWash
  • Used my green tea and apple cider vinegar rinse
  • Conditioned with the Suave Almond and Shea Butter Conditioner
  • I t-shirt dried and air-dried for a few hours
  • This week for a leave-in I tried Carol's Daughter Black Vanilla Moisture & Shine Leave-In. I'll be providing my first impressions soon
  • To finish off I dried my roots with my blow dryer, sealed with almond oil, and let the rest of my hair finish drying overnight

I'm not sure why, but in the morning my hair looked better than it felt. I wore my hair in a ponytail and by the end of the day, it felt so dry. Instead of just layering on more moisturizer and oil I put some Eden BodyWorks Jojoba Monoi Deep Conditioner on my ends, rinsed it out, and then blow-dried till my ends were slightly damp. The next day my ends felt awesome and retained moisture.

I'll probably be wearing styles this week that keep my ends tucked away so I don't dry them out.

How do you bring moisture back to your hair between washes?

  1. I've used that same exact Carol's daughter leave in and I wasn't too impressed with it. It made my hair a little stiff. I've had my bottle for a while (and the ingredients may have changed) but I think that the stiff leaving is from the protein in it. Fingers crossed that you had a better experience with it than I did!

Thanks for sharing your #washdayexperience chica!
