During my
wash day last week, I used the As I Am Cleansing Pudding for the first time. Spoiler alert, my hair wasn't too crazy about it.
What I've learned though since I started my hair journey earlier this week that it usually takes a few times of using a product for me to finally conclude whether or not my hair likes it.
With that in mind, I decided to give the As I Am Cleansing Pudding another go.
As mentioned in
Common Ingredients Found In Hair Care Products, most hair care products include a typical set of ingredients such as Alcohols, Conditioners, Humectants, Oils, and Proteins.
So of all of these ingredients which ones are good and help our relaxed hair not only look but feel healthy? Which ingredients may make our hair look like it's healthy but are actually causing it some harm?
For my six weeks post wash day, I opted to co-wash with As I Am Cleansing Pudding. I won a jar of this from a summer blog giveaway. I was excited to use this product for the first time since I'd seen so many great reviews.
Also, I used the Caruso Steam Rollers again on my relaxed hair. Sadly, I didn't get a chance to take any pictures of the steam roller curls. Good news though. I used my satin pillow rollers a couple of nights later and got some good pics of the resulting curls.
One of the main keys to having healthy hair, whether it is or isn't chemically processed, is the products that are used. With a plethora of products available, it can be hard to decipher which products have ingredients that promote healthy hair and which have ingredients that mask the evidence of unhealthy hair.
It's time for another wash day post. And this week I participated in the third Wash Day Experience theme of Smooth Sailing: share your methods for achieving your smoothest results. I'm really excited about the theme this week because I can't wait to see the tips and tricks from other posters.
To participate in the Smooth Sailing theme I used the last of my
Thermafuse Smooth Balance Shampoo and Conditioner, t-shirt dried, did a hot oil treatment, incorporated ceramides, and used Thermafuse HeatSmart Serum to seal. I also broke out the Caruso Steam Rollers (gasp!). You'll have to continue reading to see the results.
I've been seeing more and more about dry shampoos and how they can be an option for refreshing your hair without having to go through a full wash. This got me thinking about how would dry shampoo work on my dark and relaxed hair. So I decided to give it a try.
Have you ever noticed that your hair seems to feel or even look different after you spend some time outside? If you have, it's not just you. Spending time outside can put stress on our relaxed hair. Everything from the sun, wind, humidity, cold, and even heat can cause some damage to our relaxed strands.
You've probably heard of skin damage from being in the sun too long but those same UVA and UVB rays that can damage our skin can also damage and wear away the outer layers of our hair strands called the cuticle. This can lead to dry, limp, dull, and lifeless hair.
When it comes to the wind it can create knots and tangles in our hair that can take a lot of time to unravel and remove. Additionally, the more knots we have in our relaxed hair the more likely breakage is to occur when we try to remove the knots.
To help protect our hair from these and other outside or environmental elements there are few things we can do.
How time flies. I can't believe it's already been a month since my last touch-up. My new growth is starting to become evident, so I can't wait to see what this stretch will bring.
This week, the Wash Day Experience theme is Tried and True pamper your hair with your "tried and true" staple products and finish up with your fave style. I opted to use my staple products of a Coconut and Sunflower Oil hot oil treatment,
Eden BodyWorks Jojoba Monoi Deep Conditioner, green tea rinse, and
L'Oreal Total Repair 5 Restoring Conditioner with ceramides.
What do you mean that our hair can be damaged from friction?
Let me break it down. So what is friction in relation to our hair? It's when the hair strands rub against each other during times of manipulation. That includes things we do on a normal basis such as combing, brushing, styling, heat exposure, and washing.
When our hair is manipulated and friction occurs, it results in the hair cuticles rising up, potentially eroding, and swelling. All of which can cause static, flyaways, tangling, and breakage setting us back in our quest for healthy hair and also making our hair harder to style and not look as healthy as it could. All the things we don't want to happen to our hair.
Happy September!
Our Wash Day Experience hosts Jen from Just Grow Already and KLP from Saving Our Strands have created weekly wash day themes for September. The theme for week one is called Uncharted Territory and encourages us to try a new product, technique, or style we haven't before.
My participation in the theme includes using my new
Thermal Hair Care Hot Head conditioning cap during my deep conditioning and doing a mini steam after air drying to bring back the moisture lost from air drying.
