3 Weeks Post Relaxer: Doing A Protein Treatment

This past weekend was my third wash day since my relaxer touch up and I was still noticing some shedding and breakage. To help stop this I decided to do a hard protein treatment. Because I was doing a protein treatment I opted to move my deep conditioning to later in the wash instead of doing it as a pre-poo.

My wash day consisted of the following:

Pre-pooing with the last of my L'Oreal Total Repair 5 Ceramide Conditioner mixed with Dessange Oleo Replenishing Conditioner. After applying the conditioner I left it on for about an hour while I worked out.

Cleansing with Eden BodyWorks Coconut Shea CoWash. I really like this stuff.

Doing a protein treatment using Aphogee 2 Step Protein Treatment. I applied it like I did the last time I used it by sectioning my hair into four two-strand twists and then spraying the treatment on. I left the treatment on for a little under 20 minutes, 10 minutes under my hooded dryer, and 10 minutes not. After rinsing the treatment out I opted to not use the conditioner that came with it.

Next was a green tea rinse and the Eden BodyWorks Jojoba Monoi Deep Conditioner which I left on for 40 minutes under my Hot Head Cap.

It was kind of late after doing all of this, so I went straight to drying with my blow dryer on cool after applying Nothing But Melted Shea Butter Leave-in Conditioner and sealing with grapeseed oil.

The result was hair that moisturized, felt strong and had some swing. Also, I haven't seen any more breakage. I really need to do protein treatments more often.

How often do you do protein treatments?

  1. Nice! Your hair looks thick all the way to the ends, lovely :-) Grapeseed oil is da bomb! lol

    1. I absolutely love grapeseed oil now. I can't believe I waited this long to try it. Thanks for visiting.

  2. I do my protein treatments once every 4 weeks, I have also been doing protein layering at every other wash day to my more 'sensitive' areas.
Your hair looks awesome! I love the thickness

    1. Thanks Lungi! What products do you use for your protein treatments and layering?

  3. You have beautiful thick hair! I am trying to do protein treatments more often than once a month, I always notice less breakage after doing them.

    1. Are you doing hard or light treatments? Thanks for reading Becca.

  4. Ughhhh, You're hair is sooo sleek and smooth. You make me want to dig my flat iron out!
