Wash Day Products For Relaxed Hair

I’ve been on my healthy relaxed hair journey for a little over four years now. And over that time I’ve had several successes and some setbacks. I’ve also learned a lot about my hair and what it likes.

I have to laugh as I look back at some of my old wash day posts. I was using so many hair products trying to get my hair healthy again and trying to find the products that would work best for my hair.

Fast forward to now in my healthy hair journey and I have a much better understanding of the type of products I need to use on my hair and when. So I thought it would be helpful for me to walk you through the wash day products I’m currently using and how I use them in this video.

I keep my wash days simple. I rarely pre-poo anymore. I only do that when my hair or scalp feels extremely dry which doesn’t happen much anymore. So my wash day typically starts with detangling and the products I use for that are

After detangling I wash my hair by either cowashing or using a shampoo. I don’t cowash so much anymore but when I do I use either Eden BodyWorks Coconut Shea CoWash or True By Made Beautiful Co-Wash Cleansing Conditioner

When it comes to shampoos I rotate between four of them. During the first six weeks of my relaxer stretch, I rotate between SheaMoisture Peace Rose Oil Complex Nourish & Silken Shampoo and SheaMoisture Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Shampoo.

During the last six weeks of my relaxer stretches I use SheaMoisture Argan Oil & Almond Milk Smooth & Tame Shampoo because it helps me to more easily smooth and manage my new growth.

Throughout my relaxer stretch, I’ll use L’oreal Paris Total Repair 5 Shampoo to clarify my hair as needed. This could be once a month or even less.

After shampooing I do a hair rinse with green tea to help with shedding and occasionally I include apple cider vinegar for some additional scalp cleansing.

I don’t use rinse out conditioners anymore. I just use deep conditioners or masques like the SheaMoisture Mongongo & Hemp Seed Oils High Porosity Moisture-Seal Masque or the Eden BodyWorks Jojoba Monoi Deep Conditioner

To finish up my hair I use
  • An old t-shirt and eventually a blow dryer
  • The Jane Carter leave in conditioner for detangling and a heat protectant
  • TGIN Green Tea Super Moist Leave In Conditioner on my damp hair
  • True By Made Beautiful Nourishing Leave-in Conditioner on my dry hair
  • A natural oil for sealing
