Let’s talk about the Tarte Shape Tape Full Coverage Concealer. In particular how I discovered it, why I decided to use it, and how I use it in my makeup routine.

I am a late bloomer when it comes to makeup. My mom didn’t wear a lot of makeup when I was growing up so I wasn’t really exposed to it outside of magazines, books, and my grandmothers who wore red blush and lipstick when they went out.
From those books and magazines, I developed a basic understanding of the types of makeup out there and how to use them including concealer. I learned what concealer is and how it’s used - to conceal dark spots and imperfections on the skin.
Over the years, (many, many years) how concealer is and can be used on a regular basis shifted to also being used for highlighting, contouring, and priming of lips and eyelids. I had such a hard time finding a good concealer that could conceal imperfections on my darker oily skin that I had several sitting around. So having another way of using those concealers intrigued me.
After trying to use my concealers for eyelid priming and highlighting I became an avid concealer user but didn’t think the cheaper ones I was using from the drugstore were cutting it.
That’s when I started noticing reviews from other influencers for the Tarte Shape Tape Full Coverage Concealer. I would probably say this concealer is a cult favorite. Pretty much everyone and their mother uses it.
That’s probably because
The Tarte Shape Tape Full Coverage Concealer also has some really interesting and beneficial key ingredients
This concealer comes in 34 shades with a little less than half of them on the brown and darker side of the spectrum so you’ll most likely find a shade that works for you.
I’ve been using the Tarte Shape Tape Full Coverage Concealer for a few years now for these two reasons
I’m currently using the shade 53S Deep Sand which works perfectly with my skin tone for brightening. I do think I’m going to see if I can find a better shade to use for concealing as I’d like to try just wearing concealer some days.
The Tarte Shape Tape Full Coverage Concealer is a little pricey at over $30 for a tube but I was able to get it on sale when I initially bought it. I keep buying and using it because
The Tarte Shape Tape Full Coverage Concealer can be purchased at Ulta, Tarte’s website, and Amazon. I personally tend to buy mine from Ulta when it’s on sale for 30% or more percent off.
If you're not a fan of the Tarte Shape Tape Concealer because of the consistency or how it looks and feels on your dry skin, there are a few other options. There’s the Shape Tape Ultra Creamy Concealer which is similar except it provides 24-hour hydration. Gotta love options!

That’s probably because
- It’s a full-coverage formula

- It’s crease-proof so it won’t cake or settle in lines
- It brightens
- It helps to smooth & blur the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles
- It has a large dome-shaped wand making application easy
The Tarte Shape Tape Full Coverage Concealer also has some really interesting and beneficial key ingredients
- Shea butter to help retain skin's elasticity
- Mango butter to help moisturize & condition
- Licorice root to brighten the appearance of dark circles & color correction

I’ve been using the Tarte Shape Tape Full Coverage Concealer for a few years now for these two reasons
1. To brighten up my under eye: I don’t have really noticeable under-eye darkness but I like the idea of making that area look a little brighter than it naturally is.
To use it under my eyes I put a small amount in the corners. I let the concealer sit for a minute to two to get a little tacky and then blend it in with my makeup sponge.
2. As an eyelid primer: This replaced the cheap drugstore eyelid primer I had been using for a few years.
When using it as an eyelid primer I apply it after I apply my foundation or after applying my primer if I’m not wearing foundation. After applying I let the concealer sit on my lids for a couple of minutes and then blend it in with my makeup sponge.
I’m currently using the shade 53S Deep Sand which works perfectly with my skin tone for brightening. I do think I’m going to see if I can find a better shade to use for concealing as I’d like to try just wearing concealer some days.

- Personally, I think this concealer tends to last longer than my 24-hour wear foundation.
- It doesn’t dry out my skin
- It does help to brighten up my under eyes
- It helps keep my eyeshadow in place and from fading too much throughout the day
