TGIN Butter Cream Daily Moisturizer Review

My relaxed hair likes a good thick moisturizer. I also like thick hair moisturizers. If they are any good I can apply them to my hair before I go to bed and in the morning my hair is so soft and hydrated.

That is what the TGIN Butter Cream Daily Moisturizer does for my hair.

I started using this hair moisturizer a few years ago and while I'll occasionally share about it on Instagram, I don’t much here on the blog and I’m about to fix that.

The TGIN Butter Cream Daily Moisturizer is a thick daily moisturizer that provides some really intense moisture to dry hair. This moisturizer is part of the TGIN Moist Collection.

The Moist Collection is the original collection that launched TGIN. The purpose of this collection is to restore moisture in the hair.

I believe I started using this moisturizer after I had tried a couple of other Moist Collection products - the Green Tea Super Moist Leave In Conditioner and the Moisture Rich Sulfate Free Shampoo.

When I first tried it I was a little skeptical because while it’s a thick moisturizer it’s not really creamy. This is probably why when I used it on my wet or damp hair I didn’t like the results. The moisturizer made my hair feel sticky and I didn’t really feel the moisture it was supposed to give my hair.

I then put it in the back of my bathroom cabinet for a little while and after thinking about it pulled it back out again. I gave it another try because I remembered some moisturizers work better on my hair dry than damp or wet. The TGIN Butter Cream Daily Moisturizer happened to be one of those moisturizers.

Looking at the usage directions I was probably using it incorrectly by using it on my wet or damp hair.

The usage directions say “use daily or every other day as needed. Apply a small amount to hands, rub together, and work through hair. Can also be used as a setting cream to create soft, smooth and shiny two strand twists and twist-outs.” Nothing is mentioned about wet or dry hair but it kinda gives me the impression that it should be used on dry hair. What do you think?

This moisturizer claims that it
  • Hydrates dry hair
  • Improves manageability
  • Reduces frizz and flyaways
  • Promotes healthy hair growth, shine, and softness

The key ingredients of the moisturizer are shea butter, cocoa butter, and Vitamin E. The shea butter and Vitamin E are supposed to add moisture and shine to the hair and help reduce and prevent breakage.

The TGIN Butter Cream Daily Moisturizer comes in a 12-ounce jar that honestly seems to last forever because a little bit of the product goes a long way and I don’t have to use globs of it to get any results.

The TGIN Butter Cream Daily Moisturizer is a good balance of rich and lightweight and it spreads evenly through my hair especially when I add a few drops of a TGIN serum to it. It also sinks through my hair and doesn’t sit on top of my hair strands.

Unless I use a whole lot of the moisturizer it doesn’t weigh my hair down or make my hair feel greasy.

I tend to pull out this TGIN moisturizer the night after washing my hair and when my hair needs some extra moisture during the week. I don’t use this moisturizer every day. The reason I don’t use it regularly is that it has protein ingredients and I don’t want to get protein overload again.

When I want to stock back up on the TGIN Butter Cream Daily Moisturizer I can purchase it at Sally Beauty, Target, Ulta, Amazon, or directly from TGIN.
