A Worth It Hair Care Splurge: Amika Hydro Rush Leave In Conditioner

Sometimes I stumble upon a good hair product without even really looking for it. I may be innocently scrolling my social feed or watching videos from my favorite hair influencers, and notice one product keeps coming up for all of them.

That’s what happened with a liquid leave-in conditioner that I started using. Many of the hairstylists I was following raved about how well it performed when they used it on their natural hair clients. I saw women sharing their experiences with using it at home. It got to be so much that I had to try it for myself.

So I drove myself to Sephora at Kohl’s and picked up a sample size of this leave-in conditioner.

I got the amika Hydro Rush Intense Moisture Leave-In Conditioner. Now this isn’t a cheap leave-in conditioner, nor is amika a cheap brand. It’s not crazy expensive, but for the price of one bottle of leave-in conditioner, I could buy two, even three, of the drugstore ones I like and use. That’s why I got the travel size. Less cost, and less of a commitment if I didn’t like it.

About the amika Hydro Rush Intense Moisture Leave-In Conditioner

This is a liquid leave-in conditioner from the salon brand amika. This particular leave-in is part of the Hydro Rush line, which is all about providing intense, long-lasting moisture to the hair.

With ingredients like hyaluronic acid and squalane, the amika Hydro Rush leave-in conditioner claims to drench hair with 3x more hydration and boost moisture for 72 hours. They say all of this is backed by clinical trials. Because of all of the moisture it provides, this leave-in assists with detangling and reducing frizz.

Since this is a salon-level brand, you currently can’t just buy it everywhere. I got my travel size at the Sephora in my local Kohl’s and then purchased the full size directly from amika during a sale. It’s also found at a regular Sephora, Ulta, and a few other places. How I use the amika Hydro Rush Intense Moisture Leave-In Conditioner

I prefer using liquid leave-in conditioners on my relaxed hair when my hair is already wet. So I use this amika Hydro Rush leave-in when my hair is freshly washed and still damp. This helps with detangling as needed and gives my hair some extra moisture before I start drying my hair.

After rinsing out the deep conditioner, I towel-dry my hair to remove excess water. Then I spray this leave-in conditioner onto my hair.

Sometimes I section my hair, and sometimes I don’t. When I don’t section my hair, I make sure to spray all over my hair and will even lift up my hair to make sure I’m getting my whole head.

When I section my hair, I will do anywhere from two to four sections. It just depends on how detailed I want to get with the application.

After applying this amika Hydro Rush leave-in conditioner, I help distribute it on my strands by combing it through. This is also when I do some detangling. Once I’m done, I then apply my heat protectant.

My experience with the amika Hydro Rush Intense Moisture Leave-In Conditioner

Where do I start? Probably with the smell. This leave-in has one of the most pleasant fragrances I have smelled in a hair product. While it’s noticeable, it’s not overpowering. I have sensitive sinuses, and this doesn’t irritate them. Whenever I use this, I get compliments a day or two afterward about how good my hair smells.

The consistency of this is a liquid, but it’s a thick liquid. It has some creaminess, but it’s not heavy, so my hair doesn’t feel weighed down.

This also has slip, which is needed in a good detangling product.

My hair always feels soft, supple, and smooth when I use the amika Hydro Rush Leave-In Conditioner. I’ve also noticed that my hair doesn’t dry out as quickly during the week between my wash days. My hair holds moisture longer and better.

Because I use multiple hair products to help with frizz, I can’t say for sure how much this helps with frizziness, but I do think it helps since my hair has been holding moisture for longer since I started using it, and moisturized hair is a way to combat frizz.

I plan to continue with this in my hair product rotation, but will only be buying it when it’s on sale.
