The downside of packing so many beauty products in my luggage is the potential leaks from the liquids and creams. Not only does that create a mess, but it also wastes product. Thankfully, I’ve found a solution that has helped me avoid potential toiletry spills.
(I received some products free from LeakLocks to review, but all opinions are my own. This post includes some affiliate links. Should you click an affiliate link and make a purchase, I may receive a small commission.)
Not too long ago, I was watching some Reels from a content creator I follow, Jill Comes Clean. She was sharing some of the great travel products she’d found on Amazon. One of those products was covers for her toiletry products.
I was intrigued to see if these were a good solution for me, as I’ve had problems in the past with tops coming loose when my luggage was jostled during the transfer process off and on planes. This created messes and resulted in me not having some key products when I was away from home and even out of the country.
One solution I had come up with on my own was to take some duct tape and cover the tops of my toiletry bottles and jars. This worked well, but it was a pain because I had to wrap the tape around each container and remember to take the roll of tape with me for the return trip.
The solution shared by Jill Comes Clean is much better. This solution is toiletry silicone covers. These are stretchy sleeves or covers that are made of silicone that can be used to cover the tops or the entire container (depending on the container size). The sleeves fit snugly on the containers, which helps keep tops in place so they don’t come loose and keeps product from spilling in case you forget to tightly close the container top.
I bought a set and used them for the first time when I went on a cruise. I flew to Barcelona, Spain, and spent a few days there in a hotel before catching the ship. When unpacking on the ship, I realized that I accidentally didn’t close the jar of one of my leave-in conditioners. Thankfully, I had the silicone cover on it. Only a little got on the inside of the cover, and the rest was still in the jar. Whew. I lost no product as I could wipe what little got on the inside of the cover and use it. There was also no mess in my toiletry bag.
I have two sets of the silicone toiletry covers. The first set I got was this 12-pack. They come in fun colors and are nice and stretchy. You do have to be careful and not stretch it too much so that it tears. That happened to me when I looked to see how far the limit was for stretching. I like that there are multiple sizes so I can easily use them on bottles and jars.
The second set I have is this set of four, which was gifted to me by the brand LeakLocks. They are also stretchy and come in fun colors. They worked just as well as the other ones because they fit snugly on the bottles. I was able to avoid a potential shampoo spill with these.
The one thing I don’t like about the LeakLocks is that they don’t work as well on jars. I’ve been able to get them to cover a small jar, but it’s not as easy as with the other set I have. You can see me put these covers to use in this video.
With both sets of toiletry covers, I have used them on jars of conditioner, facial cleanser. and sunscreen. As well as bottles of liquid foundation, lotion, facial toner, and more. Since I started using toiletry covers, I’ve stopped using the duct tape and have kept my suitcase free of beauty product spills.
