September 2016 Traffic Report

Fall is here and we're starting the last quarter of the month though you wouldn't know it here in Florida. The weather today as I write this is 90 degrees and sunny. Not complaining, but because of the heat I sometimes forget we're weeks away from Thanksgiving and Christmas.

With the end of the month comes another traffic report for arelaxedgal.com. I share my monthly traffic reports partly to hold myself accountable and help me keep a closer eye on my monthly stats. I’m also doing this in the hopes of helping and encouraging other bloggers who are looking to grow their online presence.

September was a mixed bag. I was really busy at work for most of the month which meant I didn't feel like working on the blog much when I'd get home during the week and on the weekend. This meant some things went by the wayside and I only worked on what was most important. The good news is none of my stats really suffered as a result of my lack of attention.

Looking at Google Analytics my blog stats month-over-month saw some minor decreases, but comparing this last quarter to the previous one I saw my
  • Pageviews grow by 32%
  • Percentage of new readers shrink by 1%. This means more people are coming back after one visit so I'm happy to see this stat decrease

I also saw my bounce rate increase quarter over quarter, but the good news is it increased by less than 1% and has been decreasing over the last couple of months. I'm hoping this trend continues.

How I Did with My September Goals

  • Grow my pageviews to 6,000 - No
  • Grow my Pinterest followers to 1,100 - Yes
  • Post on Facebook 1-2 times a day - No
  • Post every day on Twitter - No
  • Post on Instagram at least once a day - No

What Worked

Pinterest
I'm so excited how blew my September goal to reach 1,100 followers out of the water. I ended up 108 followers over my goal. Without BoardBooster it wouldn't have been possible.

BoardBooster makes it so easy for me to stay active on Pinterest by pinning for me throughout the day and looping older pins on my boards. And the great thing about is I only have to spend a few minutes a week setting it up.

Since Pinterest is such a big traffic driver for me I try to stay consistent with my pinning and don't mind paying the $5 a month for BoardBooster.

What Sort of Worked

Pre-scheduling my other social channels
I didn't come close to posting every day on Facebook and Instagram and I skipped a few days on Twitter because of sheer laziness. With Hootsuite, I have no excuse for not scheduling posts for these social channels. And when I do post I tend to gain followers.

While I wasn't consistent with these channels in September I did see some follower growth and decent engagement on Twitter and Instagram.
