Coconut oil is a pretty popular hair product ingredient. If you look at the ingredient list for most hair products they probably have coconut oil in them. There is a reason for this. Actually, there are multiple reasons for this
- Coconut oil is a natural oil that is very versatile as it can be used on your hair in many ways and it also has a lot of benefits.
- It can penetrate the hair strands due to its low molecular weight
- It contains saturated fatty acids and Vitamin E which are beneficial for relaxed, colored, and natural hair
For my wash day this week, I decided to continue focusing on moisture. Since my last wash day, my relaxed hair started drying out sooner than normal. Typically my hair starts to feel dry about six or so days after I wash it which is one of the reasons I do my regular wash day about every seven days.
To try and help remedy my dry hair situation I decided to change up my wash day routine. Keep reading to see what that change was.
I vaguely remember getting my first relaxer. There are some parts of that memory that I no longer have but I do remember some things. I remember that my mom, sister, and I got ours all on the same day, who the stylist was, how old I was, how I felt when the relaxer was applied, and when I saw the results. Additionally one of the only things I remember the stylist telling us when it came to caring for our hair was to get a touch-up every six weeks.
For several years after that, we religiously would go to the salon about every six weeks to get our touch-ups. Once I got my first job in high school my mom had me start paying for and setting my own relaxer touch-up appointments. This resulted in me going whenever I felt like it and could afford it. So every now and then I would go every six weeks, most times I would go nine plus weeks.
Little did I know was that by getting my touchups every nine weeks or more I had started doing something that was good for my hair and wasn't talked about.
Since I started my healthy hair journey a little over a month ago I've been trying several new products in an effort to find what my hair likes best. I've tried shampoos, conditioners, serums, and styles. Many from brands I've never used before or even heard of before.
After trying all these hair products I've found some that my hair liked and others my hair didn't. This has resulted in changes to my relaxed hair regimen. So I wanted to provide you with an update on the products I'm using and the overall changes I've made to my hair regimen. Anything I've added is bolded and anything removed is crossed out.
I've got some questions for you. Heat can be bad for your hair, right? Heat can damage your hair, right? If you answered yes to those questions, you'll be surprised by what I'm about to say. Yes, heat is bad for your hair and can damage it, but only if you don't use the hair care products from Thermafuse.
Thermafuse claims to make your hair healthier by using heat. All of the products contain a special formula, called the HeatSmart Complex, that's made from natural ingredients. This formula penetrates the hair shaft and is activated by heat.
Liquids are a common ingredient in many products used in a healthy hair care routine. These liquids typically come in the form of hair color, shampoos, and oils. Because they are liquids their application can be really, really, really messy.
When I started my
healthy relaxed hair journey I wished there was something that could help make applying oils and shampoos to my scalp a lot easier and less messy. I soon found there was a tool that could help and it was a tool I had seen several hairstylists use.
I think this will be a shorter wash day post even though I literally had a full wash day. Since I didn't work today, I had the whole day to spend on my hair. Keep reading to see what I did.
I'm not really one for styling my relaxed hair. I just don't have the skills or patience for it. This means my hair is usually styled in a simple bun, ponytail, hair clip, or just hanging loose. Occasionally I feel like styling my hair and attempt a style like a braid out. And attempting a braid out is what happened this past weekend.
I decided to do a mid-week wash since my scalp was itching. It wasn’t flaking, but it was itching. I don’t think it was any product I used since the itching only started a couple of days ago. I’m chalking this up to my spending more time outside and pollen has been on the attack, so I’m thinking I may have some pollen that’s rested on my head and is irritating my scalp. Here’s how my midweek wash went.
I never used to buy detanglers. I thought they were a waste of time. After reading several wash day posts from several bloggers who used detanglers I realized I’d been missing out on something. So I went searching for one and came across Pantene Pro-V’s Moisture Mist Detangler. How did it do and what do I think about it? Read more to see.
I want you to imagine this scenario. You’ve just had the hair washing of your life! All of your products worked well together. Your hair is clean but not squeaky clean and stripped of all moisture. Your deep conditioning was magic and your hair feels hydrated, moisturized, and tangle-free.
You step out of the shower or raise your head from the sink (whichever is your preference) and dry your hair with a towel. Wait a minute! You look at the towel and see several strands of your hair stuck to the towel instead of on your head! Plus your hair is starting to frizz. (cue the dramatic music).
This was kind of a co-wash day. I typically co-wash in-between full washes if my relaxed hair is feeling dry, but my hair felt very moisturized this week. So I didn't feel an immediate need to do a wash day.
Out of the six days since
my last wash, I wore my hair out three days and didn't need to do any daily moisturizing. Hopefully, this wash day produces similar results.
