Achieving Smooth Hair After Relaxer Stretching For 9 Weeks

I've been stretching my relaxer for nine weeks now and my new growth is thick. As a result, to fully detangle my new growth takes a bit of time so I don't cause any damage to my hair.

Despite having a lot of new growth and dealing with two textures, I was able to achieve smooth hair after my latest wash day. How I did this was a combination of how well I detangled my hair before washing, the products I used, and how I dried my hair. Keep reading to see the details from this wash day.

This week I started the detangling process the evening before I washed my hair and did an overnight deep condition for my pre-poo using the Eden BodyWorks Jojoba Monoi Deep Conditioner.

The next day before I rinsed out the deep conditioner I applied a hot oil treatment on top. I've been participating in a 30 day hot oil treatment challenge so I wanted to make sure I did my hot oil treatment this week. The oils I used were grapeseed oil, almond oil, and three drops of tea tree oil. Doing this made my hair feel great after rinsing and set the stage for the great wash day results I saw.

I washed the conditioner and oils out with the SheaMoisture Manuka Honey and Mufura Oil Intense Hydration Shampoo. I know, I know that I didn't like it the first time I used it but I decided to give it another try as I wanted to cleanse with a moisture-based product. I mixed the shampoo with water in an application bottle. My hair felt better this time after using the shampoo.

Next was my green tea, apple cider vinegar rinse that I followed up with the Aphogee 2 Minute Reconstructor.

To finish up I t-shirt dried for a few hours, applied the Eden BodyWorks Coconut Shea Leave In Conditioner, and then tension dried with my blow dryer for a few minutes till my hair was mostly dry. I sealed my hair with almond oil and put my hair up in a bun for the rest of the day. So far I'm really liking the almond oil for a sealant. It made my hair feel really soft and added a nice shine.

That night I braided my hair in one braid down the back and used a satin pillow roller on the end. The result was some very soft and subtle waves.

After a couple of days, the waves smoothed out as you can see in the pic above. To keep my hair styling simple and to protect my ends I have been wearing my hair up for most of the week either in buns, clips, or a ponytail.

How are you wearing your hair this week?
