Taking Care Of My Hair On A 10 Day Overseas Trip

Summer is the travel season. The kids are out of school and the weather tends to be nice. So many people will take a vacation or multiple vacations. This could be a long weekend or even two weeks.

To kick off my summer I went on a seven-day Mediterranean cruise. While the cruise would be seven days I would be gone for about 10 days. To prepare for the trip I studied the weather for the ports we’d be visiting, gathered everything I would need based on the excursions we’d be taking, and made a list of everything I would need at home before leaving.

Additionally, I did some things to make sure I was able to properly care for my hair and not stray too far from my hair healthy regimen. Because I was traveling overseas for a little more than I week I needed to make sure I had a plan to keep my hair on the healthy track.

1. Prepped hair prior to leaving

The day before I left for my trip I

I wanted to start my trip with clean hair so it wouldn’t be due for a wash until I got back. I also wanted to make sure my hair had a proper moisture and protein balance hence the hard protein treatment and deep condition.

2. Took the essentials

When I travel domestically, I don’t worry as much about the products I’m taking with me because I know I can find a Walmart or CVS wherever I go. But when I travel overseas I take all the products I know I can’t live without since I know there’s a good chance I won’t be able to find them.

For this trip, I knew I was going to be spending a lot of time outside in the sun, wind, and heat. So the hair products I took needed to be able to handle and stand up to sun, wind, and heat.

I took sample-sized moisturizing shampoos and rinse-out conditioners so I could include them in my carry-on. I like to carry most of my hair and beauty in a carry-on in case my checked luggage doesn't make it to my destination at the same time I do.

The shampoo and conditioner and I took were the Suave Professionals Almond and Shea Butter Shampoo and Conditioner. I took just enough product to wash my hair at least twice during the trip. I opted for this shampoo and conditioner because they are formulated for moisturizing dry hair and I knew my hair would be constantly exposed to sun, wind, and heat which would dry out my hair.

I also took the Jane Carter Revitalizing Leave-in Conditioner which I’ve found is a great way to quickly moisturize my hair and the Cantu Argan Oil Leave-In Conditioning Repair Cream which I used a few times to help seal in the liquid leave-in conditioner on my ends.

3. Kept hair moisturized

This was essential so I didn’t have any breakage and my hair didn’t completely dry out.

To keep my hair moisturized I sprayed Jane Carter Revitalizing Leave-in Conditioner on my hair each night paying close attention to my ends. After that, I wrapped my hair up in a satin wrap to keep it protected and moisturized.

Additionally, I wore updos multiple days during the trip to keep my hair protected. This included tucked under ponytails, braids, and buns.
