7 Hair Masks To Help Fix Your Dry Hair Issues

If you suffer from dry hair whether on a constant basis or from time to time, you know how hard it can be to find a hair mask (A.K.A. hair masque) that not only will your hair like but will also hydrate it.

So what is a hair mask?

For years I thought deep conditioners and hair masks were the same. The only difference was that mask or masque was a fancy way of saying conditioner. I was kinda wrong.

Woman with relaxed hair that is no longer dry.

What I found is while that is the case today there did use to be a difference between hair masks and deep conditioners. The difference was that hair masks would have richer concentrations of conditioning ingredients and would more deeply penetrate the hair strands.

In today's world, hair brands have blurred the lines between deep conditioners and hair masks so there is no clear difference between the two.

When it comes to deep conditioners or hair masks I’m always on the search for ones that can keep dry hair at bay and overall help the health of my hair. I’ve been lucky during my hair journey as I’ve been able to find more often than not hair masks that have helped my dry hair issues.

To help make your next search easier, I’ve compiled a list of seven hair masks that are formulated to help solve dry hair issues and improve the overall health of your hair.

1. Not Your Mother's Matcha Green Tea & Wild Apple Blossom Hair Masque

My hair likes thick hair masks and this one from the Not Your Mother's Matcha Green Tea & Wild Apple Blossom line fits the bill. After using it the first time my hair felt so soft and hydrated which lived up to the description of the hair mask deeply conditioning and aiding in restoring damaged strands, preparing hair for a purified, fresh style.

Here's the ingredient list: Water (Aqua), Cetearyl Alcohol, Stearyl Alcohol, Diheptyl Succinate, Capryloyl Glycerin/Sebacic Acid Copolymer, Fragrance (Parfum), Behentrimonium Chloride, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Powder, Malus Domestica Fruit Extract, Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate, Distearyldimonium Chloride, PPG-3 Benzyl Ether Ethylhexanoate, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Glycerin, Quaternium-80, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Citric Acid.

I like that it's not expensive and you only need to leave it on for 5-10 minutes to get the positive effects.

You can purchase this Not Your Mother's butter hair masque from Ulta and the Not Your Mother's site.

2. Proclaim Argan Oil Intense Hydrating Masque

This is the moisturizing hair masque I had previously used in my hair regimen. It did a good job of hydrating my hair and getting it back into shape when it was feeling really dry.

The Proclaim Argan Oil Intense Hydrating Masque isn't expensive and claims that it “nourishes and detangles frizzy and unruly hair leaving it extra ordinarily soft, silky and manageable.”

Here is the ingredient list: Water, Cetyl Alcohol, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Cetrimonium Cloride, Linum Usitatissimum (Linseed) See Oil, Glycerin, Dimethicone, Behentrimonium Chloride, Isopropyl Alcohol, Methyl Chloride, Argania Spinosa Kernal Oil, Fragrance, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylehexylglycerin, Hexylene Glycol, Caramel, Yellow 5, Limonene, Linalool

You can purchase a packet of the Proclaim Argan Oil Intense Hydrating Masque at Sally Beauty or on Amazon.

3. TGIN Honey Miracle Hair Mask

When I read the description for this honey hair mask from TGIN I think I automatically started to pull out my credit card. TGIN says this hair mask “is like an instant make over for dry, damaged or colored treated hair. This luxurious deep conditioner contains raw honey for softer, shinier tresses and jojoba and olive oils, which nourish and heal strands in need of repair. The result is hair that never looked so good.”

Here is the ingredient list from the TGIN website: water, raw honey, olea europaea (olive) fruit oil, simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) seed oil, aloe barbadensis (aloe vera) leaf juice, stearyl alcohol, cetyl alcohol, stearamidopropyl dimethylamine, glutamic acid, glycerin, fragrance, benzyl alcohol, edta, cyclopentasiloxane, dimethicone.  methylchloroisothiazolinone, methylisothiazolinone

I have tried this hair mask and wasn't blown away as you can see in this review I did. It's still a favorite in the relaxed hair community which is why I have included it on the list.

You can purchase this hair mask directly from TGIN, at Target, Ulta, WalmartAmazon, or Sally Beauty.

4. TGIN Miracle RepaiRx Deep Hydrating Hair Mask

While I'm not a fan of the TGIN Honey Miracle Hair Mask I do really, really like the Miracle RepaiRx Deep Hydrating Hair Mask. It is currently my go-to hair mask.

My favorite things about the Miracle RepaiRx Deep Hydrating Hair Mask are
  • It is thick and creamy
  • It sinks deeply into my strands and really hydrates them
  • I don't need to mix it with other conditioners or oils for it to work
  • The smell isn't bad
  • I don't have to use a lot of the product to cover my entire head

Here is the ingredient list from the TGIN website: water, raw black honey, ricinus communis (castor seed oil), biotin, olea europaea (olive) fruit oil, agave americana leaf (agave) extract, carica papaya fruit (papaya) extract, ginger root (ginger) extract, gardenia tahitensis (monoi) flower extract, euterpe oleracea (acai) fruit extract, sclerocarya birrea (marula) seed oil, simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) seed oil, aloe barbadensis (aloe vera) leaf juice, cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, stearyl alcohol, cetyl alcohol, stearamidopropyl dimethylamine, glycerin, fragrance, cyclopentasiloxane, dimethicone.

You can buy this hair mask from multiple places like - Ulta, Walmart, Target, Amazon, Sally Beauty, and TGIN.

5. Eden BodyWorks Almond Marshmallow Split End Repair Masque

I used this hair mask from Eden BodyWorks for a few months until I no longer could find it in the store. Of all of the hair masks on this list, it's one of the hardest to find.

It claims to "dramatically improve the look and feel of your hair — plus prevent future damage. Wave buh-bye to breakage for good!" Its key benefits are:
  • Provides slip for detangling hair
  • Reduces shedding
  • Softens hair
  • Protects against breakage

There are some nice ingredients on the ingredient list: Water (Aqua), Stearyl Alcohol, Cetyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Fragrance (Parfum), Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Althaea Officinalis (Marshmallow) Root Extract, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leaf Juice, Hydrogenated Castor Oil/Sebacic Acid Copolymer, Hydrolyzed Adansonia Digitata Seed Extract, Maltodextrin/VP Copolymer, Panthenol, Polyquaternium-10, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter, Tribehenin, Stearalkonium Chloride, Benzyl Alcohol, Dehydroacetic Acid Maltol, Nerolidol, Limonene, Linalool.

What had me using this hair mask for a while is it's not only hydrating but it also has protein that adds some strength to my hair so you can get the best of both worlds. It also has the most slip of any deep conditioner or hair mask I’ve used. It always sunk into my hair.

As I mentioned, it's hard to get your hands on this hair mask I've really only seen it sold on Amazon and the Eden BodyWorks site.

6. Camille Rose Algae Renew Deep Conditioning Mask

I have yet to give this hair mask a try but I've seen more and more relaxed hair ladies using it. This Camille Rose hair mask claims to be packed with 65 vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants and moisturizes and strengthens.

It has several interesting ingredients with the two main ones being
  • Blue Green Algae to strengthen the hair, prevent thinning & breakage
  • Mango Butter to intensely moisturize, lock, and seal in moisture

The full ingredient list is: Deionized Water, Aloe Vera Juice, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut Oil), Behentrimonium Methosulfate (BTMS) Cetyl Alcohol, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Butter, Mangifera Indica (Mango) Seed Butter, Cannabis Sativa (Hemp) Seed Oil, Di Panthenol, Mel (Manuka) Honey, Vegetable Glycerin, Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Extract, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Rosa Canina (Rose Hip) Fruit Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol (Optiphen), Blue Green Algae, Dimethyl Sulfone (MSM), Biotin, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Oil, Scent.

You can purchase this hair mask from Ulta, Sally Beauty, the Camille Rose site, Target, Amazon, and Walmart.

7. Macadamia Natural Oil Natural Deep Repair Masque

This is probably the priciest of all seven but it has such great reviews. I’ve had a few hairstylists use this on my hair and it made my hair feel like butter.

Not only is the Macadamia Deep Repair Masque formulated to condition your hair, but it’s also a reconstructor. So it helps to improve the overall health of your hair if it’s also damaged.

  1. Hello
Thanks for sharing,I`ve always had this terrible hair that never grows and is always dry.
Now I have to say I have never used any masks on my hair, just never thought about it.Must say it was easier to manage in the past but as i get older, it`s just impossible to manage.
What do you think? is it ok to only use homemade hairmasks or should one mix things up?

    1. I personally don't use hair masques because I'm a little lazy and don't want to spend the type sourcing ingredients and mixing everything up. Plus they don't last very long. If you go the store bought route, I suggest doing research on the masques your considering and seeing if you can get sample sizes to try before committing to a big container.

  2. I was fascinated to read this. Mainly because I make my own hydration stuff for my skin and my nails and my cuticles and my hair. I use many of the oils listed in your products to do that. And I'm going to research some of the ones you list here to get ideas for my next version of the serum that I've made.

    1. I tend to battle with dry hair more in the winter as well. Hopefully one of these hair masques will help. If not several of these brands have other masques may be better suited for your hair.
