My Wash Day Routine Post Relaxer | 1 Week Post Relaxer

It’s been a while since I’ve done a wash day post! Since it’s been a while, I decided it was time to share my routine and products for my post relaxer touch-up wash.

I have a hair regimen that I use for my relaxed hair but it’s not one that is set in stone. Over the years I’ve learned that it’s best to have a hair regimen framework and adapt it based on my hair needs, current environment, or even how much time I have to spend on my hair. You can see my relaxed hair regimen framework here.

This wash is a week after my touch-up. I didn’t feel like my hair needed anything specific per se but I wanted to achieve a few things to help keep my hair on the right track
  • Really hydrate and moisturize my hair
  • Repair the broken disulfide bonds from the relaxer

To start off I did a pre-poo treatment by mixing the Tresemme Keratin Smooth Conditioner with some Jamaican Black Castor Oil, sunflower oil, and olive oil. I’m not sure how long I left the mixture on my hair because after I applied it I went and cut my lawn.

For my shampoos, I used the Joico Moisture Recovery Shampoo first and got up a good lather. I love how gentle and moisturizing this sulfate shampoo is. I then followed up with the TGIN Sulfate Free Moisture Rich Shampoo.

Next, it was bond repair time. I used the Creme of Nature Bond Mender Pre-Treatment. I like this treatment because it helps my hair feel stronger and it doesn’t cost a lot of money.

After 10 minutes I rinsed out the bond treatment and rinsed my hair with my green tea and apple cider vinegar hair rinse and immediately put on the TGIN Miracle RepaiRx Deep Hydrating Hair Mask.

I did a 20-minute steam treatment with the hair mask on and boy did my hair feel really good. You can see more about steam treatments and why I do them in this post.

To finish up I decided to dry my hair by doing a roller set. The products I put on my hair were the Mielle Mongongo Oil Thermal & Heat Protectant Spray, ion Repair Split End Mender on my ends (I’m trying to use up this product), Mielle Avocado Moisturizing Hair Milk, and the Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum.

I sat under my hooded dryer for about 90 minutes and my hair wasn’t fully dry but it was late so I decided to just let my hair finish drying overnight.

I applied the TGIN Green Tea Super Moist Leave In Conditioner and Argan Replenishing Hair & Body Serum, and then baggied my ends.

The next day I flat ironed my hair using the One ‘n Only Argan Oil Treatment as my heat protectant. I’ve been flat ironing my hair every so often lately and haven’t had any negative effects. I do the chase method which gets my hair smooth with one pass.

Until my next wash, I’ll be wearing my hair down some days adding a little bend to my ends with steam rollers, wearing it up some to protect my ends, and keeping my hair moisturized by moisturizing and sealing occasionally.
