My Favorite Daytime Moisturizer With Sunscreen For Oily Skin

Since I was a teenager and started paying attention to the way my skin looked I’ve been dealing with oily skin. It’s both a curse and a blessing. It’s a curse because I start to glow a few hours into the day and it’s hard to keep makeup looking good on my face. But it’s a blessing because it’s what’s keeping my skin from wrinkling and looking young.

Due to my oily skin, I would stay away from skincare products especially face moisturizers that talked about replenishing moisture or adding hydration because I thought that would make my oily skin worse. In fact, I even went through a period of time when I didn’t wear moisturizer every day.

What I found is that avoiding moisturizing my face had the opposite effect. It dehydrated my skin to the point that my skin was producing even more oil to compensate. This meant I would look oily earlier in the day and would have to blot multiple times throughout the day to keep my makeup looking halfway decent. I needed to change my approach.

One key thing I changed in my skincare was my moisturizer. When looking for a good SPF moisturizer for my face I stumbled across the Neutrogena Hydro Boost City Shield Hydrating Water Gel Sunscreen. I’d been seeing a lot of promotion and commotion around the Neutrogena Hydroboost line and after reading the description and seeing I could purchase it at a discount (either a sale, coupon, or both. I can’t remember which) I gave it a try.

What is the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Line?

Per Neutrogena, it is a collection of skin-drenching products that are infused with purified hyaluronic acid. The products provide ultra-hydration by replenishing water and helping to improve the skin's moisture barrier making the skin look smoother and more hydrated.

The collection includes cleansers, moisturizers, serums, and even makeup. I’ve only used the Neutrogena Hydro Boost City Shield Hydrating Water Gel Sunscreen but may try more in the future.

Why I like and continue using it

I started using the Neutrogena Hydro Boost City Shield Hydrating Water Gel Sunscreen one winter when I was making a trip to Washington DC. Though I have oily skin, when I was living in North Carolina the skin around my mouth would sometimes dry out and start to peel for a few weeks during the winter (TMI, sorry). For the remainder of the year, I had no issues with that area. Since I had been living in Florida for a few years without having that problem I knew it would be an issue, especially with the colder than normal temps that DC would be experiencing that weekend.

I had no issues with my skin drying out around my mouth. So I kept using it and it soon became a staple in my skincare regimen even though I was living in Florida.

Besides that, there are several things I like about this face moisturizer
  • A little goes a long way
  • It’s not greasy
  • It’s lightweight
  • It absorbs into my skin quickly
  • It has sunscreen in it
  • It doesn’t irritate my skin
  • It pairs well with the other products I use
