Removing Product Build-up 1 Week Post Relaxer

Well, my relaxer touch-up was last week, and while it didn't go as well as I hoped I did have a good wash day this week.

This week on wash day I was tired and really didn't want to wash my relaxed hair, but it was so weighed down with product that I couldn't stand it anymore. Since I was working with a shortened time frame I changed things up a little bit. Here's what I did:

Pre-pooed

Being only one week post, I skipped sectioning my hair and there was no need for any long detangling session. I pre-pooed with Eden BodyWorks Jojoba Monoi Deep Conditioner, put my hair up in a twist on the top of my head, and left it for 30 minutes. The conditioner sank into my hair. After rinsing my hair felt soft getting my wash day off to a good start.

Cleansed

For cleansing, I used my post-relaxer cleanser of Thermafuse f450 Smooth Balance Shampoo (my review). It really cleaned my hair and scalp removing all of the product build-up. I followed up with a green tea rinse.

Conditioned

Before applying my conditioner I wrung out the excess green tea. The conditioner I used was Thermafuse f450 Smooth Balance Condition. I applied it without rinsing out the green tea.

Leave-in and sealant

I t-shirt dried for about an hour, applied the Eden BodyWorks Coconut Shea Leave-in Conditioner that I mixed with Garnier Fructis Marvelous Oil Deep Nourish. I received the Marvelous Oil as a sample. It has a pleasant smell and a little goes a long way.

Dried

I used the low heat setting on my hooded dryer to finish drying. This took about 55 minutes. Once my hair had dried, I cross-wrapped it and went to bed.

My hair felt soft and moisturized afterward. And there was virtually no shedding (yea!). I was so pleased with my hair that I wore it out to church the next day (gasp!).

    1. Thanks for reading Yemi. My tips to prep for a touch up are:
      - the week before clarify, do a protein treatment to add some strength to your hair, and deep condition
      - 48 hours before application fully detangle
      - 24 hours or less before application base your scalp and put a light conditioner or oil on your previously relaxed strands (don't put the conditioner or oil on your new growth)
