Natural Oils That You Can Use On Your Relaxed Hair

It's time for another hair series! This one is about natural oils for chemically-treated hair. Natural oils can be a very important part of a healthy relaxed hair regimen. Extracted directly from plants, they provide slip, help seal in moisture, soothe a dry scalp, add shine and can help prevent breakage. One important thing to note is most oils don't moisturize.

When it comes to adding natural oils to your relaxed hair regimen there are so many choices. As a way to help me select the oils I'd like to include in my regimen I think of them in three groups:
  1. Penetrating Oils
  2. Non-penetrating Oils
  3. Essential Oils

While the oils in these groups have their own benefits, they can also be mixed into an oil cocktail for enhanced benefits. Upcoming posts in this series will dive deeper into the benefits of these groups and the specific oils that fall into these groups.

In addition to the many choices of natural oils, there are also multiple ways you can include them in your chemically-treated hair regimen

You can find these oils in grocery stores, health food stores, and online. To find an oil or oil cocktail that works best for you and your hair takes experimentation as not every natural oil works for everyone.

I have tried at least one oil from each of the three groups. I've tried tea tree oil, an essential oil, by mixing it with my shampoo and apple cider vinegar rinses. I've also used coconut oil and sunflower oil to seal in my moisturizer.

Keep reading this series to learn more about the different types of natural oils and how you can use them.
