Hair Health Update: January 2015

It's hard to believe it, but January is over and we're starting the second month of 2015. A co-worker and I were talking about it the other day. It seems that the older you get, the quicker time moves. Well, with the end of January comes my monthly hair update where I share where I stand with my hair goals and the overall state of my hair.

To level-set, I set some goals for 2015 which are to maintain the health of my hair, minimize the number of products I try, protect my ends at least five days a week and find a new stylist. On these, I give myself 60% as I really only achieved about two of the goals this month.

Maintain the health of my hair

I don't think I did as good a job as I could have. Now that I'm back in my own place, I'm trying to get back to my full wash day and hair maintenance routine. I'm only a couple of wash days in and I'm noticing that hair, particularly my ends, is back to not retaining moisture for more than a few days after washes. On the plus side, using the Jamaican Black Castor Oil is helping to reduce my itchy and flaky scalp.

Minimize the number of products I try

I tried two new products this month and will be trying some new oils in February so I won't be giving myself a good grade on this one for a while.

Protect my ends at least five days a week

Done and done. I've worn my ends tucked for at least five days except for one week this month.

Find a new stylist

This isn't something that will show up each month since I only go to the stylists 3-4 times a year. I have found a stylist that was recommended by a stylist in North Carolina who I will be seeing for a touch up at 16 weeks. We'll see what happens.

Plans for February

In February I plan to focus on my ends by protecting them and finding ways to keep them moisturized between washes.

How are you doing with your 2015 hair goals?

  1. I haven't set any hair goals for the year. Ihave every other year of my journey and while length is still VERY important to me, I'm transitioning so I feel like it would be depressing to focus on it. However, I do plan to go back to the basics to maximize my growth and retention - so I'm right there with you on protecting your ends!
