Using A New Protein Product With 11 Weeks Of New Growth

I'm deep into another relaxer stretch, almost three months. 11 weeks if you'd like to be exact. Thankfully my hair seems to be playing nice, though I have to admit there are some mornings I don't know what to do with it and have fleeting (not really serious) thoughts of cutting it all off.

I really don't want to be fighting with my hair so as my new growth is getting longer, my wash days are getting simpler. That being said I wanted to mix things up a little bit and decided to introduce my hair to new a protein product.

  • To get my wash day started I did a pre-poo with an overnight deep condition like I did last week (yes, I might be hooked). Once again I used the Eden BodyWorks Jojoba Deep Conditioner
  • Cleansed using a moisturizing shampoo that I massaged only onto my scalp and let the water wash it down my strands during rinsing.
  • Treated my hair with Aphogee 2 Minute Keratin Reconstructor which I left on for about five minutes. This was my first time using this product. I'd heard so many good things about it that I couldn't hold off not giving it a try anymore.
  • I rinsed out the reconstructor with water and my green tea and apple cider vinegar mix
  • Conditioned with Suave Natural Infusions Moisturizing Conditioner for about five minutes
  • T-shirt dried for an hour
  • Applied Nothing But Melted Shea Butter to my damp hair in sections and then tension dried with my blow dryer and finished off with coconut oil
  • That night I cross-wrapped my hair to get it smooth

The next day I had clean, smooth, moisturized hair that I styled using the headband tuck. For the rest of the week, I'm alternating between buns, braids, and half ponytails.

Braided style with 11 weeks of new growth | A Relaxed Gal

This was my first time using the Aphogee 2 Minute Keratin Reconstructor and I really liked it. This treatment claims to restore strength and softness to hair and also helps to repair damage caused by chlorine and hard water. Florida doesn't have the best water which is one of the reasons I decided to give it a try.

After using The Aphogee Reconstructor my hair feels stronger, softer, and heavier. I haven't decided whether I'll use it every wash day or every other wash day. I may play it by ear and use it when my hair seems to need it.

  4. Beautiful styles chica! I used to use Aphogee 2 Minute Keratin Reconstructor like it was going out of style when I first started my hhj. I'm not sure why I stopped using it...I probably just got bored. Silly pj tendencies!

About how long does it take for you to tension dry your hair? Your hair looks so thick!

    Thanks for sharing your #washdayexperience!

    1. When tension drying my hair I like to try and let it air dry for a while. Otherwise it can take an 40-60 minutes for it to fully dry.

    1. The Aphogee Reconstructor is a light protein and you only keep it on your hair for a few minutes which is why I use it.

      Thanks for reading Yvonne!
